“Don’t judge me, but…” Why is this the precursor phrase to what we really want to say when what we want to say may be a little ? Why can’t we say what we want to say and not care what the person who we are speaking to thinks? I don’t have an answer here, I’m asking you! And it seems to be mainly with big topics like politics, race, religion, homosexuality, abortion and the list goes on. We seem to live in a world where what we believe comes secondary to what the societal norm is for the time. If your (our) view is different than the culturally accepted norm, then we risk ridicule, condemnation, and well, judgement.
Here’s my opinion, and it’s just that – MY opinion. People are going to believe whatever they want to believe. We each have what we believe is the truth. My truth is rooted in the Bible. Your truth may be rooted in the Quran. Or your truth may be rooted in worshiping four legged animals – I don’t know. And I’m not meaning to belittle anyone’s beliefs but I’m just saying don’t judge me because my beliefs may not be the same as yours. Respect me enough as an individual to at least appreciate that I believe in something. Hmmm, in rereading this paragraph that sounded angry. I’m not angry. I’m just “passionate” about this judgement thing. Look below – I’m smiling!!!!
The other day I met a lady who was telling me that she is a Christian and her bible taught her the truth. She informed me that if I read the bible carefully I would see that women are not to wear makeup, not to wear pants, and they are never to marry again after being divorced. I was like – ok – well in your truth I’m going straight to you know where! But you know what? That was her belief. My bible doesn’t tell me that. And see, this is the thing, there are so many interpretations of truth that how do you know your truth is the right one? Like I said, I don’t have an answer for you. Just questions. But I will say this, in most of the various religions/truths/spiritual paths that I’ve researched, the common denominator was to respect and love one another. Soooooooo, if that’s the case – where does this judgement thing come in? Hmmmmm…..
Have a great weekend and remember to ALWAYS – Believe in You!!
