It’s mid April! Can you believe it? Where did the time go? We have completed the first third of 2016. How are you doing with the goals you set out in January? Be honest. Some of you are on track, others are off track, and some of you are on and off the track. It’s ok though. Really. When your desire to achieve your goal outweighs your current state of affairs, you will do what you need to do. That’s just the way life is. In the meantime – DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP.
Let me tell you a story (I’ve always got a story – notice that?). Last night I stayed up until 4am sorting out my receipts for my tax guy. For the last five years I have told myself that I’ve got to keep up with my books monthly. That way come tax time, I just have to compile everything and hand it over to my tax guy (I have the best tax guy by the way – Irv you’re the best!). Anyways, despite the fact that I tell myself this every year, I don’t do it. Why? Because the desire to change has not bothered me enough to actually change. UNTIL NOW!!! As I was inputting numbers in the spreadsheet Irv has created for me (yes, he customizes the spreadsheet), I said to myself “Jen, for goodness sake – STOP THE MADNESS. Just input the damn numbers month end”. Trust me, this is what I am going to do. One of my top goals for 2016 is to input my numbers monthly so 2017 tax season runs smoothly. I’m sharing this with you for two reasons – to show you that we all have our something we need to change AND to ask you to keep me accountable. Check in with me on May 5th and say “Jen, did you do your numbers?” I’ll know what you mean.
Listen, being upset with yourself and feeling guilty for not accomplishing what you set out to do is a waste of energy. Yes, set yourself straight, but then just make the adjustment you need to make and move on with your life. January 1 is not the only time to set a new goal. Everyday is a new start to a new day. Yesterday is gone, so learn the lesson you needed to learn and apply it today. I know you can. The question is, do you?
Remember, everything starts when you believe in you.
