You are here because something pulled you in. You want a change and you think this woman may have something that can help me. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I have been sharing my 10 ways to develop or create a growth mindset because it is your mindset that is going to make the difference for you in 2020. So let’s review,
Hack #1 – Make a Decision
Hack #2 – Set Goals
Hack #3 is to get yourself an accountability partner! This person can be someone that you hire as a coach, or it can be a colleague/mentor/boss – but it must be someone who you can trust to provide you with clear, honest feedback and who will be a source of support. Remember, when you set goals and ACHIEVE them, you will feel good and want to keep going. But when you set goals and run into roadblocks, our inner bully can quickly tear down the growth we have made causing us to see failure as the end result. An accountability partner can help you achieve your goals which in turn, helps you with your mindset.
Check out this video to get some ideas in the qualities you should be looking for:
Whoever you choose to be your accountability partner, it must NOT be a “yes” person. A yes person is someone who is always going to agree with you outwardly even if they don’t agree with you inwardly. Again, this person you want is someone who will encourage you, will believe in you and most importantly will be honest with you.
Having an accountability partner is vital.
With any goal that you set, you will likely initially feel motivated to achieve it. BUT when that motivation dissipates (and it will) and you no longer feel like doing what you need to do or you feel discouraged and want to give up – that accountability partner can be there to help remind you of why you set your goal in the first place. They can help you put that inner bully in check.
Psychology professor, Gail Matthews form the Dominican University in California, did a study on goal achievement. She found that people who wrote down their goals, shared them with a friend, and sent them weekly updates were on average 33% more successful in accomplishing their stated goals than those who merely formulated them. Another study, indicated that you are 95% more likely to achieve your goals when you meet with your accountability partner on a weekly basis. WOW!
Vision boards, journals, and positive affirmations are all good and they are part of the list when it comes to creating a growth mindset, BUT an accountability partner will help you turn aspiration into accomplishment which will in turn help you in your growth journey.
