What is the key to being in style (or at least one of the keys)? CONFIDENCE!! A woman with confidence can rock an outfit that is outdated and be easily forgiven – lol. But just as important as confidence is to styling yourself beautifully is to knowing yourself intimately. Get your mind out of the gutter. I’m just talking about really knowing your body type and how to dress it! Be totally and completely aware of what looks good on you, what colors most flatter you, and what features you want to accentuate. Sound like a lot of work? It’s not. Truly. Just a little bit of knowledge will bring you a long way! So today, I’m going to discuss the importance of symmetry or balanced proportions.
Our eyes naturally look for a symmetrical look. The left must balance the right, the bottom must balance the top. If something is off, our eyes look to how to create a sense of balance. It’s the way we’ve been conditioned. The issue is – not all of us have a perfectly balanced or proportioned body shapee. But no worries, that is where the power of knowledge and illusion comes in. Knowing how to dress for your body shape can make all the difference in the world.
Sorry for the blurry pic. If you would like a clearer one message me and I will send it right over to you.
Let’s take the banana/rectangle shaped woman. Her shape is characterized by hip and shoulder width being nearly similar with very little waist definition. She is often times smaller chested. This shaped woman will want to create the illusion that she’s got some hips and some waist definition. So banana ladies, check these pieces out:
Choose clothing that has some shape to it so they will add shape to you. Heels (if you can wear them) are great because they add shape to your legs! A-line skirts are going to be your friend because it will create an illusion of some hips! Watch your necklines – the deeper and/or wider the better to create some depth to your shoulders.
Let me make this easier for you. If you know that your bottom half looks bigger than your top half, you want to create the illusion of broader shoulders to match up with the wider hips. If you have a bit of a tummy (like me) choose tops with will mask that area. I call them tummy hiding tops! Check these out:
Knowing some tips and tricks can be fun and ever so stylish!!
