You may think this post is going to be all mushy and full of encouraging words and thoughts. It might – haven’t decided yet. But what I know is it will be short and sweet and you will walk away with a little homework. But the thought behind this post is that I just want to ask you – who are you? Like, who are you really?
Many of us define ourselves by our positions – career person, business person, teacher, doctor, mom, aunt, dad, uncle, etc… But when I meet someone, although it’s nice to know what a person does for a living, what I really want to know is WHO you are. Are you kind? Are you encouraging? Are you honest? Are you mean? Who are you really ?
Often times I will meet people (and I’ve fallen victim to this as well) and they will focus on a few negative things they did in their lives and then define themselves by this negative act. It’s easier for them to rhyme off all the negative as opposed to coming with even five great things about themselves. I know I did that with certain situations in my life. I recall a time in my life where I was hurting pretty bad and as a result I had hurt someone’s feelings by my actions (fyi – hurt people tend to hurt people. Remember that next time you want to judge someone – you don’t know what’s going on for that person. Instead of judging I encourage you to pray for them, send out positive vibes to the universe, whatever it is you do – just don’t judge). Anyways, the long and short of it is that I hurt someone which is something I ABSOLUTELY DETEST doing and I carried that guilt with me for so long. Even though I apologized and even though what I did was not to intentionally hurt them, the fact that my actions hurt them left me feeling like I was the worst person in the world. But guess what – I’m not. You’re not. We’re human and we do some pretty dumb stuff sometimes. Get over yourself. I sure had to get over myself. So when I ask you, who are you, go to the stuff that defines who you are. Let me start you off with my statement of who I am,
I am a kind hearted, encouraging, uplifting person who loves people. I want to see people succeed and I will love you inspite of yourself. That is who I am in a nutshell. Who are you?
So here is your homework, get a piece of paper and a pen/marker/pencil whatever writing utensil you can come up with. Write out five qualities about yourself. If that was easy for you to do, then increase it to ten! Start it out with “I am…” and rhyme off the great things about you. If you are on fb, please post below and share with everyone! If you are on twitter, retweet this with your five-ten good qualities about yourself. I challenge you to share this post and get your friends, families, and networks, talking about how great they are! Then take your paper and post it in a place where you will see it on a regular. Then smile because you are so AWESOME!!!
Ok so this did end up a little mushy with some encouragement. But, hey, that’s just who I am.
Have an absolutely fantabulous weekend!!!! Remember, Believe In You!!
